Ton Son Nhut Air Base Tower
Compared to the roses in the previous picture, this photo shows you the reality of daily life in Vietnam during the war. I think this damage was done during the Tet Offensive in January of 1968.
Smith and I spent the night at Ton Son Nhut and then processed into 8th Aerial Port Squadron the next day. When we finished, we were able to finally get a ride on that elusive bus from the day before. As we waited to climb aboard, I noticed the bullet and shrapnel holes in the side of the bus. I also saw that the driver had an M-16 at his feet. The ride between Saigon and Bien Hoa wasn't always a happy joy ride.
