Sgt. Goff U.S.Army

Sgt. Goff, United States Army

Sergeant Goff was one of the liaisons between the U.S. Army and our detachment. He coordinated the shipments of ammunition that came into our port for the 6th Battalion, 27th Artillery. I remember him as always being very friendly and cooperative. Sometimes I would have to talk to him over the phone line between Bien Hoa and Long Binh. Invariably we had a bad connection.

"Is that you, Edwards?" he would holler at the top of his voice.

"Yes!" I would yell back as loud as I could.

"Look here. This is Sergeant Goff. We got ammunition coming in tomorrow!" he would scream.

There were times when I think we could have communicated just as well with a couple of tin cans and a piece of string.
