U-2 at Bien Hoa Air Base
While I was at Bien Hoa, there were two U-2 aircraft in a hanger right next to our ramp. I guess no one was supposed to know that U-2s were stationed in Vietnam, because you weren't allowed to take a picture of them. Well, the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese knew they were there. They shot at them all the time.
The U-2 is basically a glider with a jet engine. They could take off and climb almost straight up. I took this picture from inside our office so the air police wouldn't see me. If they caught you taking a picture, they would confiscate your film.
